Pimples seem to have a mind of their own. After having blemish-free skin throughout the week, they make an appearance right before a big event. Unsightly, and prominent as hell. But don’t throw in the towel just yet. Here are 9 home remedies that promise to give you freedom from pimples overnight.

1. Tea Tree Oil

Unless you have very sensitive skin, tea tree oil is a very effective remedy to treat pimples and acne. It is antibacterial in nature and acts on the bacteria that cause pimples and acne. Also, it soothes the inflammation and redness on the pimples. Not only that, it also helps dry out blackheads and whiteheads. Just dip a cotton ball in tea tree essential oil and dab it on the pimples. Rinse your face 15-20 minutes later. Another way of using it is to mix it with 1 tablespoon of aloe vera gel and apply the mixture on the pimples and leave it on for 20 minutes before rinsing it off.

2. Steam

Steam can work wonders on your skin and is especially effective when you have pimples. Steam tends to open your pores allowing your skin to breathe. It rids your skin of oils, dirt or bacteria trapped in the pores and prevents infection and inflammation. To steam, use a large container filled with hot water and let the steam come in contact with your face for a few minutes. Rinse your face with lukewarm water and pat dry before applying an oil-free moisturizer.

3. Cucumber

Cucumber has a soothing and cooling effect on the skin. For this remedy, cut fresh cucumbers and let them steep in water for an hour. This transfers nutrients like Vitamin A, potassium and chlorophyll into the water. Strain the water and use it to drink and wash your face with it. Alternatively, you can also make a face mask out of cucumber by grinding one cucumber and apply the mask on your face and leave it on for 15 minutes and wash with lukewarm water. This will help clean out the dirt and bacteria from your pores.

4. Baking Soda

You can use this remedy even if you happen to have sensitive skin. Prepare a paste by adding a few drops of water to some baking soda and apply it to clean skin and wait until it dries. After about 30-40 minutes, remove the paste with warm water and apply an oil-free moisturizer to your skin.

5. Toothpaste

Aspirin has strong anti-inflammatory properties and helps bring down the swelling and redness on the pimples.

7. Garlic

Garlic is a very effective remedy for pimples and acne owing to its strong anti-bacterial properties. Squeeze the juice from a few cloves of garlic and dilute the juice with a few drops of water. Apply this to the pimples and leave it on for some time. Alternatively, you can mash some garlic and let it steep in water for 15 minutes. Add some aloe vera gel to it and apply it on the pimples leaving it on for some time.
