Every baby has a sleeping pattern, which keeps changing over time. Usually, it is safe to make them sleep on their backs, in their crib. But, some babies feel restless without a human touch. Sometimes, parents prefer keeping them close at night. Although sleeping with the baby may feel comforting, co-sleeping parents have a tough time adjusting to their sleeping positions. Here are 8 weird positions parents might relate to.

1. The Snow Angel

As a co-sleeping parent, you may know well within a few night’s sleep that your baby is pretending to be a snow angel. Babies in such sleeping positions keep stretching their arms and legs to occupy the center space of the mattress. They presume mommy and daddy can make the corner posts of their castle, and ward you off the edges.

2. The Bridge Or H-Position

This position is definitely not intentional, but your baby may become a long horizontal barrier between you two. Even if you try to turn them back, they gradually shift back to the same position, flapping at you with their hands and feet.

3. The Shield Position

This high alert shield position will squeeze out any chances of intimacy between you and your partner. Husbands can feel the backfire – ‘You can’t touch mommy, she is mine!.’ Even if you kiss your partner, your baby will wake up to the slightest of sounds completely disrupting your sleep.

4. The Kickboxer

It doesn’t matter if their parents know kung fu or not, some babies can apparently show some of those skills in the bed. The kickboxer is that sleeper, who, now practices kicking outside the womb, in their parent’s bed.

Does the baby climb over their parent’s face at night or do the parents lovingly cuddle them, and forget to place them back in the right position? The mystery of how your baby ends up over your face or body in the morning – still remains unresolved.

6. The Stalker

Do you remember any such moments when you opened an eye to check on your baby, and found them sitting and staring back at you? The little angel is probably keeping an eye on their sleeping parents. While some babies wake up and whine asking for food, others may simply get up with no clue of what to do at night. Craddling them to sleep is the only option thereafter.

7. The Night Clock

It may seem your baby is following a clockwise pattern when you open your eyes to see their feet first instead of their face. Crawlers may have the habit of twisting and turning even in their sleep. Co-sleeping parents have to give their baby all the space they need to travel around the world in 8 hours.

8. The Parent Trap

Your little one will take a nap, having most of the mattress space to themselves. You and your spouse get cramped at the farther edge of the cot. Partners may like to cuddle up and feel good sequestered on one side of bed, but this seems like a punishment inflicted upon you by your child.

Parents who keep their babies close at night don’t sleep properly, and also aren’t wide awake. Their baby’s simple sobs can get them on their feet, cradling and holding them until they sleep again. Carrying them around at midnight and singing them lullaby might feel like a dream walk. The truth is – there is no secret to good parenting. One learns along the way.
