8 Tips For High-Performance Moms To Refresh Their Health

For any high-performance woman out there, the stress that is put on us each day is enough to make us feel drained and stressed out. We are expected to show up our best at work each day, take care of our family, on top of so many other responsibilities many of us hold. While being a high-performance woman can be incredibly rewarding it’s important for us to remember to take care of ourselves so that we can perform at our best. I want to share 8 tips for high-performance women to refresh their health so that they can feel better and feel their best every day. There’s no time to feel dragged down, overtired, and stressed out so let’s dive right in.

1. Reduce Sugar

We know that sugar is bad for us, but most people don’t realize how addicting it is and how it can ruin your energy levels for the day. One of the top dietary tips I recommend high-performance women do is eliminate or at least significantly cut back on their sugar consumption. You can start by reducing the amount of processed foods you consume daily and choose whole foods instead.

2. Eat Right

Eat the right whole foods

While we are on the topic of sugar, it’s important to talk about the importance of eating right in general. Eating a healthy diet can mean the difference between refreshing your health and feeling better and dealing with the same symptoms you’ve been suffering from. I like to recommend a Paleo style diet for my patients because it focuses on an anti-inflammatory approach to eating and encourages you to eliminate sugar, gluten, dairy, and processed foods. If you are looking to refresh your health, start by including a more Paleo style approach to your eating habits.

3. Cut Out Reactive Foods

Sensitive foods are to be avoided

Do you see the pattern here and see just how important diet is when it comes to refreshing your health and finally feeling better? When I talk about reactive foods, I am talking about food sensitivities. Many women are consuming foods their bodies are reactive to which can contribute to symptoms including digestive upset, fatigue, and irritability. I recommend that my patients get tested for food sensitivities to determine which foods their body is reacting to and then eliminating those for a period of time. This can also help reduce the total inflammation in your body which will ultimately boost your health long term.

4. Be Mindful Of Everything

Be aware of your surroundings

Practicing mindfulness is something that I encourage all of my high-performance patients do. When you have endless responsibilities each day, it’s easy for you to lose sight of what truly matters in life and it can be difficult to find a calm state of mind. This is why I recommend practicing mindfulness daily. Refreshing your health is not only about boosting your physical health it’s also about taking care of your mental health as well. The two go hand in hand. So, to be more mindful set aside a couple of minutes each day to just be. Take some deep breaths and don’t be judgmental about any thoughts that may pop up. Just be mindful of your surroundings. The more you practice mindfulness the better you will get and the more you will be able to incorporate this practice into many different areas of your life.

5. Exercise

Exercising can help with more focus and health

Exercise is a great way to refresh your health and can make you feel better both physically and mentally. When it comes to exercise it’s important to do what makes your body feel good and not to go too intense with it. Start by incorporating some light to moderate exercise into your routine if you haven’t worked out in a long time. You can do some walking, yoga, or even Pilates to strengthen your muscles. Exercise also helps to elevate your mood and the better you feel emotionally, the more you will want to do physically, it’s a win, win.

6. Do Something That Makes You Happy

Doing something that makes you happy is good

Part of refreshing your health means doing things that make you happy and doing them as often as possible. This is all part of taking care of your mental health so schedule in some time to do something you enjoy at least once per week and if you can do it more than go for it! I often like to recommend that you plan a vacation even if it means just a day or two or a “staycation” that you can look forward to when work life gets crazy.

7. Cut Out Caffeine

Caffeine can make you reckless

Refresh your health by cutting back on caffeine. Caffeine can make you wired, anxious, and can be hard on your adrenal glands and stress hormones. Instead of caffeine for an energy boost, try exercising, increasing your energy boosting foods (avocados, grass-fed animal products, sprouted nuts, and seeds) or doing some stress reduction if stress is what’s causing your fatigue.

8. Eliminate Gluten

Gluten can cause thyroid issues

Gluten is one of the foods I recommend that my patients eliminate from their diet. Gluten can be very damaging to thyroid health, can be detrimental for those with autoimmune conditions, and can cause a serious case of brain fog. Try starting a gluten free diet to refresh your health and feel better!

If you are a high-performance woman, who is in need of a health refresh try putting these 8 steps into action. You may be surprised at how a little self-care can make you feel better fast and can refresh your health for the long run.
