Wrinkles are never a lovely sight, and dry skin needs a lot of care as it can start aging soon. Dry skin problems are many: from wrinkles and scaly patches to itchy skin and eczema. When your skin is unable to retain enough moisture, your skin gets dry. Causes of dry skin range from genetic skin conditions and dehydration to lack of proper care and diseases such as type 2 diabetes and psoriasis, to name a couple of them.
To treat dry skin conditions, lot of moisturizers are available in the market, but they are often loaded with chemicals. This is the reason we must always look for ways to treat ourselves with natural alternatives. It has been found that you can easily treat dry skin conditions with simple food masks made at home. These food masks are not only quite high on nourishment but also, very pocket-friendly. These are not as sophisticated as those shea butter moisturizers but are easily available and healthy masks made from fruits and vegetables you always get home. The best thing about food masks is that they are natural, gentle on the skin, and can be made in a jiffy!
1. The Fruity Mask
For the breakfast mask, you need to take a few chunks of papaya, two fresh, juicy strawberries, a tablespoon of oatmeal, and a tablespoon of honey. Add all the ingredients in a bowl and mash them well. Put this thick fruit paste on your face and neck and massage well. Let it sit for 15 minutes and then, rinse the mask off with cool water. Pat dry and moisturize immediately. This mask is packed with antioxidants and soothing agents, and these properties relieve you by calming itchy and flaky skin down.
2. The Cooling Mask
Take half a cucumber and peel it, chop it, and deseed it. Take a couple of fresh aloe vera leaves, cut the prickly sides, and extract the gel. Add the cucumber and fresh aloe vera gel in a blender to make a squishy paste. Apply this on your face and neck and remember not to touch your eyes. Let it sit for 30 minutes until it gets dry. Once the paste dries, wash your face with cold water and pat dry. Do not forget to moisturize right away. This hydrating pack gives dry skin a shot of moisture and leaves you feeling refreshed.
3. The Oil Mask
This oil soak uses coconut oil, which is antifungal, antibacterial, and extremely beneficial for our health. Before using this mask, carry on with your bedtime skin care regimen as usual, but do not use night cream or moisturizer. Instead of night cream or any other moisturizer, apply extra virgin coconut oil all over your face, neck, and ears. Let the oil sit overnight and in the morning, wash your face with a mild face wash and warm water. Due to the linolenic acid present in coconut oil, it penetrates more easily into your skin and hair compared to other oils.
4. The Smoothing Mask
To get soft, smooth skin, a softening and smoothing mask can do wonders. Take a cup of plain yogurt, one banana, and one tablespoon of honey. Add all the ingredients to a blender and blend them well. Apply this paste on the face and neck, and let it settle on your face for 20 minutes. Once it dries, wash your face with warm water, pat dry, and apply moisturizer immediately. This mask leaves your skin hydrated, glowing, and fixes dry skin easily.
If you are looking to treat your dry skin with natural ingredients, these food masks can be added to your skincare regimen and let them do wonders.
