The human body is a well-organized group of bones, muscles, nerves and vital organs that work in unison. Nonetheless, there are times when the smooth functioning of the human body gets hampered due to various reasons. Under these circumstances, specific symptoms show up to attract our attention.
The body presents various signs of imbalance or disease whenever it needs assistance in handling it. During times like these, it’s important that we pay utmost attention to the body’s call for help.
Ways The Body Tells Us It Needs Help
Awareness is very important when it comes to understanding what’s going on with our body. Here are 6 things it does to alarm us about an underlying condition.
1. Severe Fatigue All Day Long
Many people equate feeling tired with the lack of adequate sleep. However, there are many who experience extreme tiredness all day long despite catching up on sleep. This could be due to various reasons like inadequate blood oxygenation in iron-deficiency anemia or cardiovascular disease. Depressed individuals also tend to be tired throughout the day and disinterested in daily chores.
2. Unexplained Rapid Weight Loss
A huge majority would love it if the body shed pounds without much effort. Sadly, if you think you have been losing weight rapidly despite any exercise regime or diet modification, some thing’s fishy. People suffering from an overactive thyroid, type 1 diabetes, gastrointestinal disorders or cancer tend to shed pounds rapidly.1
3. Chronic Insomnia
Short-term insomnia can happen once in a while in our lives as a response to coping with a stressful life event. However, if your sleeplessness has become a daily routine, the underlying causes could be many. These include mental health issues like depression, schizophrenia or bipolar disorder.
Some individuals experience breathlessness when they fall asleep and avoid sleeping altogether. This condition is called sleep apnea and it can be easily treated.2
4. Changes In The Appearance Of The Tongue
The tongue undergoes distinct changes in its appearance and color when you are affected by certain diseases. A pale, smooth tongue with no visible rough patches indicate iron or vitamin B12 deficiency. Your tongue will have recurrent ulcers if you are suffering from Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. An overly white tongue is indicative of bacterial or yeast infection.3
5. Bleeding Gums
If your gums bleeding despite gentle brushing, it’s due to poor gingival health as seen in gingivitis and periodontitis. It’s best to visit the dentist to seek treatment for gum disease or else that could lead to tooth loss. In some cases, it can also indicate vitamin C and K deficiency too.4
6. Restlessness Combined With Sweating
Panic attacks usually manifest with symptoms of anxiety, cold sweat, and nausea. This is often triggered by a stressful incident or thing. But, a panic attack resolves when you distract your mind by deep breathing or just leaving the stressful scenario.
On the other hand, when restlessness, sweating, nausea occur with pain or tightness over the left arm and chest, it indicates a heart attack. Many even experience breathlessness along with the other symptoms. Immediate medical attention is needed in such a scenario for the sake of your survival.5
Keep the following signs in mind and seek professional help whenever you are experiencing these. Awareness is the key to good health.
