Being a mom is the toughest job. You are constantly on call and rarely get a day off. Heck, even when we’re sick we still need to take care of our family!
Regardless of the time and sacrifices, we make for our kids, it’s all worth it. However, we need to make some time to care for ourselves.
After all, if we don’t take care of ourselves, we’ll be of no use to anyone else. When it comes to self-care, I turn to my trusty essential oils to help me out. There are many ways you can incorporate them into your daily routine.
I carry them with me, add them to my essential oil bracelets or necklace, wear them daily added to moisturizer or lotion, add them to a relaxing bath, and diffuse them aromatically.
Since I started using essential oils, I’ve ditched the expensive and harmful perfumes as well as the other body care products. It’s better for my health and saves me money in the long run.
7 Must Have Essential Oils
1. Lavender Oil
Lavender is very calming and relaxing. I like to apply topically or diffuse before bed to help me get a better night’s rest. It’s a great one to add to your bath or to your favorite moisturizer.
2. Grounding Blend
This is a daily must! Apply topically to the bottom of your feet to help you stay balanced and grounded. This is a blend of spruce needle/leaf, ho wood, frankincense resin, blue tansy flower, and blue chamomile flower essential oils in a base of fractionated coconut oil.
3. Women’s Monthly Blend
It helps me keep sane and my hormones balanced. Daily application on the abdomen or on the outside of your right ankle is recommended. This blend contains clary sage flower, lavender flower, bergamot peel, roman chamomile flower, cedarwood wood, ylang-ylang flower, geranium plant, fennel seed, carrot seed, palmarosa herb and vitex leaf/berry essential oils.
4. Calming Blend
This is another great essential oil to help keep calm, relax and get a better night’s sleep. It consists of lavender flower, cedarwood, ho wood leaf, ylang-ylang flower, marjoram leaf, roman chamomile flower, vetiver root, vanilla bean absolute, and Hawaiian sandalwood. You can apply topically or diffuse the calming blend.
It has so many amazing uses, however, I think my favorites are it helps me keep awake and alert, gives me energy when I need it, and eases headaches and tummy troubles. Combine with a carrier oil and apply topically to the area of concern or diffuse aromatically.
6. Protective Blend
This blend helps keep my family healthier year round by supporting our immune system. It’s a blend of wild orange peel, clove bud, cinnamon bark/leaf, eucalyptus leaf, and rosemary leaf/flower essential oils. We mix it with a carrier oil and apply topically to the bottom of our feet or up our spine daily.
7. Joyful Blend
This helps to elevate my mood, gives me energy, and eases stress. I love adding this one to my diffuser jewelry where I can easily breathe it in during the day or diffusing aromatically. The joyful blend is a combination of lavandin flower, lavender flower, Hawaiian sandalwood, tangerine peel, Melissa flower, ylang-ylang flower, elemi resin, osmanthus flower, and lemon myrtle leaf essential oils.
Keep in mind that a little bit goes a long way when using essential oils, you only need 1-2 drops per application. When diluting you can use a 1:1 ratio.
Caution: Be careful not to get essential oils in your eyes, nose or other sensitive areas. Avoid sunlight or UV rays for up to 12 hours after topical application of citrus essential oils or blends containing citrus essential oils.
Also, note that not all essential oils are created equal. Do your research to make sure the essential oils you’re using are therapeutic grade to benefit from their amazing properties.
