The mom fell pregnant within six weeks after delivering her first baby. She thought the myth ‘you can’t get pregnant if you are breastfeeding’ was, after all, true but she proved that wrong.

Eliza Curby from Northern Beaches, Australia, was pregnant with her daughter Charlie three months after she dated Ben. Then, just six weeks after she delivered Charlie last January, she discovered that she was pregnant again and with identical twins.

The twins were born in December 2016 on Christmas eve and gave the couple one amazing year of their life. The twins are named Jack and Wolfe.

Eliza still reeling under her unbelievable journey said, “I still can’t believe it. We fell pregnant with our first, Charlie, three months after we started dating!”

She says that she expected the first 6 weeks after giving birth to be the hardest, but was very surprised when she was still super exhausted.

Eliza says, “My mum always said it takes six full weeks to come up for air! I was exhausted trying to figure out the ins and outs of being a mum, but about a month after having Charlie though I felt really, super exhausted.”

When everyone around her thought it was only sleep-deprivation, she was just not convinced. She says, “I remember looking at Ben and saying ‘I think I’m pregnant’. He just laughed.”

She took four pregnancy tests and out of which three were negative. The couple was bowled over when they went to the doctor for an ultrasound.

Eliza says, “The technician seemed awkward and uncomfortable before he finally said … ‘look it’s early days … but … I think there’s two’.”

“And it turns out there was! I was so scared but secretly super excited – I think everyone has a secret desire for identical twins.”

The mom of three said, “Ben had always been super keen to become a father so we were over the moon at the thought of creating our own little family. I say little as Ben’s idea of a family included two children – very nuclear indeed.”

“I, on the other hand, have always been set on having as many children as I can – nothing excites me more than the thought of walking through our local streets of Mona Vale with my own little clan.”

“Needless to say the decision was taken out of his hands – I win.”

However, dad Ben didn’t expect this shock. Eliza revealed to the media, “When we found out, Ben’s face just went white.”

Eliza was in pleasant denial for two months until she couldn’t hide it anymore. She was huge and 35 kg heavier.

Emotionally it took me about two months and somewhere around 2000 Google ‘twin pregnant stomach’ images to come to terms with the news,” Eliza said.

She said, “I was, however, lucky to have a problem free pregnancy. Both boys made it to over 36 weeks, which was the goal, and passed the 3kg mark.”

As far as logistics were concerned, the family has everything in three. They have been changing a whopping 140 nappies a week.

“I express at the moment – as the whole twin breastfeeding thing is impossible with a one-year-old crawling on you,” Eliza said.

Ms. Curby has been writing a blog about her experiences and trying to function just right!

She wrote, “No I probably couldn’t spell my name right now. But I am here, and I am functioning. Just.”

Eliza says she doesn’t have any tips for any other mums in the same situation, “I was trying to think of some tips the other day for my blog and realized I probably don’t have it together enough for that yet.”
