5 Great Ways To Use Essential Oils

I’ve been crushing on essential oils for years, my friends. Years ago, when I was struggling with stress and anxiety in my crazy-corporate job, I instinctively reached for essential oils. I naturally knew that I did not want to rely on anti-anxiety pills at that point. So, I started to explore natural remedies such as a plant-forward diet, to more holistic approaches to managing stress. That’s where essential oils came in.

At the time, I primarily used essential oils in my bath but it wasn’t until two years ago that I realized that there were so many unlimited uses for what many call, “nature’s medicine”.

I’m going to show you the 5 Ways That I Use Essential Oils here shortly. But, I do want to instil in you the importance of being a savvy essential oil shopper as not all oils are the same. In particular, if you are looking to use the oils topically (i.e. on your skin), you’ll want to source the purest, cleanest oils out there.

I personally use essential oils based on their quality after stringent testing to ensure that the oils are 100% clean and pure. Additionally, the oils are sourced from the country the plant is indigenous to which, from a health perspective, is an awesome practice.

Here are the 5 ways that I use essential oils

1. Cooking

Yes, who would have thought that you could use essential oils as a flavouring agent, keeping in mind purity! A drop, or maybe two in a smoothie or savoury dish is all you need as essential oils are quite concentrated. Here are my favourite recipes made with essential oils: Honey lemon immunity serum, double chocolate orange smoothie, rosemary and black pepper paleo bread.

2. Natural Beauty Or Dental Care

The wonderful thing about pure grade, therapeutic essential oils is that due to their chemical make-up and potency, they have the ability to revive and heal your skin. My favourites are frankincense, cedarwood and lavender. Additionally, my oil pulling and holistic mouth wash regime includes essential oils and they’re all non-toxic. Here are a few of my natural beauty recipes: Toxic free toothpaste, moisturizing whipped body butter, healing beauty mist.

3. Cleaning Products

I have wiped out all of my chemical-laden cleaning products and started to make my own with just a few simple ingredients. I clean my makeup brushes with a little castile soap and 2-3 drops of melaleuca or tea tree oil for it’s antibacterial properties. My all-purpose cleaner is just water, castile soap and wild orange essential oil so fresh and clean.

4. Stress Relief And Relaxation

This is one of my most coveted ways to use essential oils as it has helped me out tremendously. There are two ways that I use these oils to tame my busy mind:

1. Epsom Salt Baths

About 3-4 days a week, I drop 1 cup of epsom salts, 1/2 cup of sea salt, and 1/2 baking soda with 5-7 drops of my favourite essential oils depending on my mood.

2. Topically

It is quite an impact to take a couple of drops of essential oils in your hand, and take a deep inhale. Essential oils such as peppermint and orange have immense energetic qualities. So, the next time you’re feeling a little sluggish, add a drop of oil in your hand and give it a feel deep inhales.

5. Diffusing

And, finally, my fifth favourite way I love to use essential oils is through a diffuser. Generally, a diffuser emits a fine mist of essential oil that you can inhale providing a lot of therapeutic benefits (it’s a real gem when you have a cold!). I have four diffusers! – one in the bedroom, the living room, my office and now, in my dining room or kitchen.

Now, similar to essential oils, not all diffusers are the same. Most essential oil diffusers use water to lightly disperse oils into the air. However, the organic aromas diffuser and nebulizing diffusers use no water and only use 100% of the essential oil.
