5 Practices To Heal Pre-Menstrual Syndrome

How To Heal Pre-Menstrual Syndrome

Traditional Indian energy healers considered the menstrual cycle as sacred, as it is a cycle of mother nature. The moon governs and regulates the menstrual cycle, with ovulation occurring at around the full-moon phase and menstruation occurring at around the dark-moon phase.

Earlier, life was lived in harmony with nature and women rested during their period to assist with the physical and emotional cleansing process. But lately, through unhealthy practices, our body faces certain conditions.

What Causes The Pre-Menstrual Syndrome?

Pre-menstrual syndrome is a sign that our menstrual cycle is no longer synchronized with the cycle of the moon. This syndrome occurs when the healthy flow of energy through the chakras is affected, mostly by the following practices:

  • Immersing ourselves in artificial light
  • Altering our natural hormones with birth control pills
  • Masking our ailments with medication
  • Suppressing our emotions with inorganic food and drinks
  • Ignoring our body’s signals

Pre-menstrual syndrome stems from energy imbalances within our sacral chakra, located in our lower abdomen. This chakra is associated with the color orange; linked to our reproductive glands; is the center for our desires, passions and creativity; and represents femininity.

How To Heal Pre-Menstrual Syndrome

Follow the energy practices given here for 6 weeks:

1. Open Your Sacral Chakra

The following traditional practice releases stagnant energy to allow the free flow of positive universal earth energy throughout your sacral chakra:

  1. Sit comfortably in Sukhasana (Easy Pose) outdoors on dry bare earth, grass, or sand.
  2. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths to relax your body and calm your mind.
  3. Bring awareness to the vast universal energy flowing beneath you.
  4. Visualize the earth energy as deep orange in color.
  5. Feel the deep orange earth energy being drawn in by your sacral chakra.
  6. Gently sway your hips from left to right, creating a subtle figure of eight movement.
  7. Visualize the orange earth energy flowing through your pelvis and opening your sacral chakra.
  8. Sway your hips freely and allow your upper body to flow with the movement.
  9. Practice for 20 minutes each day.

2. Detoxify Your Sacral Chakra

Essential oils embody the healing properties of plants to balance the physical, mental, and emotional body. The following oils cleanse your sacral chakra:

  • Carrot seed oil is grounding and calms emotional anxiety and mental stress.
  • Sweet orange oil is balancing and alleviates hormonal fluctuations.
  • Sandalwood oil is harmonizing and dispels negative energy.

Gently melt 1 tbsp organic ghee. Add 3 drops of essential oil and massage your abdomen, lower back, and buttocks. Include your ankles and heels to activate your hormone-regulating acupressure points.

3. Harmonize Your Sacral Chakra

The Shakti Mudra releases physical and emotional tension from the lower abdomen to restore and balance the energy within your sacral chakra.

  1. Place your thumbs in your palms.
  2. Bend your index fingers and place them over your thumbs.
  3. Bend your middle fingers and place them over your thumbs.
  4. Place the tip of each ring finger together.
  5. Place the tip of each little finger together.
