Ginger is considered as a universal cure and has many uses in both traditional and conventional medicine. It’s fragrant and pungent quality adds a wonderful flavor to food. It contains potent anti-inflammatory compounds called ‘gingerols’ which can reduce many diseases that are caused by inflammation like arthritis and also inhibit the growth of human colorectal cancer cells, according to the research presented at the Frontiers in Cancer Prevention Research.
Ginger Recipes And Remedies
Remedies: Treats pain, inflammation, relieves nausea, lowers bad cholesterol, reduces fever, stimulates blood circulation and prevents cancer.
Preparation: Bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Add finely chopped ginger, reduce heat and simmer for 5 min. Remove from heat, wait 20 min and strain. In another saucepan dissolve 1 cup granulated sugar in 1 cup boiling water. Mix 1/2 cup ginger water with 1/3 cup of the simple syrup and 1/2 cup of club soda. Add raw honey to sweeten the taste and some lime juice.
Ayurvedic Ginger Drink
Remedies: Relieves gas, bloating, constipation, irregular bowel movements and hiccups. Balances vata and helps return digestion to normal.
Preparation: Blend 1 cup water, 1-2 inch grated fresh ginger, 1/2 lime or lemon juice, 1 tsp pure maple Syrup, 1/4 tsp crushed black pepper and a pinch of Himalayan salt.
Remedies: Relieves cold and flu
Preparation: Place 1tbspn chopped fresh ginger root into a pot with a lid on it. Add 1 cup water in the pot. Once it comes to a boil, immediately turn off the fire and let it steep for one hour. Using a metal strainer, remove the ginger from the tea. Re-heat and add honey and lemon after taking it off the heat. Drink warm.

Preparation: Boil 1 cup of water in a saucepan. Next, add 1 tsp of freshly grated ginger and 1 tsp of freshly grated turmeric and simmer for 10 to 15 minutes on low heat. If you’re using ground turmeric or ginger, boil for 7 minutes only. Next, strain the tea and add honey and lemon to taste. Also add 1 tsp coconut oil or black pepper for absorption.
Note: You could have one cup of tea every day for good health. However, it is advisable for pregnant and breastfeeding women to consult the doctor before consuming these herbs. Also, for those taking blood thinning drugs or with a bleeding disorder must first visit a medical practitioner before consuming.
Other Fantastic Ginger Combinations
With Lime: Mix 1 teaspoon each of fresh ginger juice and lime juice, and take after eating to aid digestion, relieve excess gas, constipation, and lower abdominal pain.
With Onion: Mix 1 teaspoon of ginger juice with 1 teaspoon of fresh onion juice to calm nausea and vomiting.
With Black Pepper and Amla: Mix 1/2 teaspoon of trikatu (equal parts dry ginger, black pepper and pippali) with 1 teaspoon of honey to burn ama and excess kapha in the lungs. Take 2 or 3 times per day before meals.
With Castor oil: Add ½ ounce of castor oil to 1 cup of ginger tea and drink before bed as a cure for Rheumatoid Arthritis.
With Honey: Mix 1 teaspoon of fresh ginger juice and honey, and ingest 2 to 3 times a day to relieve sinus congestion.
With Ghee: Cook 1 tablespoon of ginger powder and 2 tablespoons of ghee in an iron pot to make it into a paste. Eat a ½ teaspoon at a time, 3 times a day to relieve Splenic Pain, Osteoarthritis, and Diarrhea
