A healthy digestion is one of the prime requisites to enjoy the fruit of wellness as per the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda. Ayurveda counsels that you need to keep your digestion boosted at all times. In case you suffer from a stomach discomfort, it could lay down a foundation for many other ailments.
Signs of weak digestion include a wide variety of symptoms like loss of hunger, excessive wind formation, belching, pain in the gastric region, and a continuous feeling of abdominal discomfort.
Why Is Digestion Important?
Ayurveda believes a healthy stomach to be the basis of one’s health. So if the workings of your stomach is hampered due to any reason, it can lead to the evolution of diseases. This is because a disease manifests itself when there is diminished gastric fire (agni), which further tends to cause improper digestion and assimilation of the ingested food.
According to Ayurveda, a disease is caused when there is a distortion or imbalance in either of the three doshas or the body humors viz. air, fire, or phlegm:
- In the distortion of the Pitta, or heat, there is a burning sensation accompanied with sour eructation.
- When there is an increase in the Kapha dosha, or phlegm, the prime symptoms are nausea and vomiting.
Ayurveda Tips To Boost Digestion
Ayurveda suggests some regulations relating to food intake to guarantee a step up in digestion:
- Eat according to your capacity. Overeating can lead to a number of lifestyle-related ailments.
- To judge your capacity, divide your stomach hypothetically into four parts. Of these, two parts are to be filled with solid food and one part with liquid. The fourth part is to be kept empty for the proper movement of gases.
- The foods taken regularly every day should be nourishing as well as easily digestible. Vegetarian food is more preferable.
- Food should be freshly cooked, pleasing, tasty, and taken in agreeable ambiance.
- Exercise in any form immediately after food intake should be avoided. Night meals should be taken two to three hours before sleep.
- Never eat in a hurry. Take your time. Proper
- Taking food during mental states of worry, anger, or stress could cause more harm than good.
- Seasonal fruits and vegetables with lots of fiber, herbs, and condiments generally used in Indian kitchens; whole-wheat preparations; unpolished cereals; saindhav salt; cow’s milk; ghee (clarified butter); honey; etc., are largely recommended.
- Also, it is very important to eat only when you’re hungry. Because the sign of hunger indicates proper digestion of the previous meal.
