When you get up in the morning, you look at your face in the mirror and suddenly discover a zit on your forehead. That is the most frustrating thing to deal with sometimes because you don’t know whether to pop it or let it be. But that’s the catch. A lot of skin blemishes aren’t meant to be popped or poked. Because by popping a zit, we increase the chances of infection by exposing our broken skin to the outside dirt and grim. According to most renowned skin experts, the best way to deal with skin eruptions is by letting them heal on their own. So, if you want to achieve flawless skin, then it is important that you stop messing with your skin. There are four kinds of skin eruptions that you shouldn’t pop.
1. Ingrown Hair
Ingrown hair can be a pesky problem to get rid of. Are they frustrating to deal with? Yes. Should you pop them? Well, the answer to that would be no. You should not pop your ingrown hair bumps. Ingrown hairs are formed when the hair shaft gets trapped underneath the skin surface. This leads to the formation of an itchy and inflamed red spot. But one should never use fingers or tweezers to pop these eruptions. Squeezing these inflamed spots can lead to the breaking of the skin which can cause staph infections and in some severe cases even sepsis. Applying hydrocortisone can help in reducing the irritation and redness. Use a gentle exfoliating cleanser to clean the surface of the skin.
2. Cystic Acne
Cystic acne causes a very persistent type of pimples that can run very deep in the skin and can form red nodules. This kind of pimples are generally very painful and much harder to get rid of with topical over the counter medicines. Cystic acne is often accompanied with inflammation which makes it even harder to treat and it often leaves behind permanent marks. So, popping these pimples wont help in getting rid of them either. And even if you pop a pimple, you will not be able to get rid of the cyst underneath as it will be present deep inside the skin and you will only end up with a bloody mark. So, book an appointment with a dermatologist who can help you solve this problem and hopefully save you from scarring.
3. Whiteheads
Whiteheads are very easy to get rid of using fingers, which is why the temptation of doing it is hard to resist for most people. Whiteheads contain oil, skin cells and acne bacteria. Also, whiteheads keep the acne bacteria contained in one place till the blemishes disappear. So, when you squeeze out a whitehead, you end up releasing all of its content on to your skin. When you pop it, you push the bacteria deeper into your skin and cause it to spread all over your face which ends up causing more break outs. If you allow acne to go deeper, then it will leave behind a permanent scar that would be hard to get rid of. Allow your skin to take care of itself as it knows best to deal with its problems by producing collagen.
4. Blackheads
This is another pesky problem that can be a pain to deal with. Blackheads consist of the same things as whiteheads. It is mostly oil trapped inside clogged pores which become dark in appearance after being exposed to air. Squeezing the contents out of the pores might seem like an easy way out, but it causes more trauma to your skin than good. And popping it can push the bacteria much deeper inside the skin which should be avoided. So, instead of poking and squeezing your blackheads, use a gentle face wash that can take of this problem.
Skin problems are a big pain to deal with as we don’t know what can aggravate the problem. So, the best way to deal with skin eruptions would be a ‘hands-off’ approach. If you are having a persistent problem, then visit a dermatologist who can guide you in the right direction of recovery.
